Meet Emma Jackson, Weipa Far North Qld

British born Emma Jackson arrived in Australia as a backpacker 15 years ago, before marrying her Cape York grazier husband and becoming a mother of four. Along with her role as their children’s educator, Emma runs the business side of the family’s Weipa station and volunteers with local community groups.

Her roots as a regional advocate go back to childhood, when Emma was first to put her hand up and last to walk away.

“I was determined, driven and passionate,” she says. “That has never left me.”

Emma believes that nothing is impossible, an attitude that’s seen her travel the world and meet people from all walks of life. She attributes these experiences to her wide perspective, showing that the more places you visit, the more culture you taste and the more you understand the world.

Drawn to the natural attractions of where she lives, Emma acknowledges the fine balance between maintaining both land and people. “To maintain the beauty, we need people, but we need the land to maintain people.”

Long-term, Emma wants to provide opportunities for those who don’t fit into the regular education system and struggle to find their niche.  “My children and husband are my absolute world, but it’s my dream to be able to help and teach others to recognise what this amazing world has to offer.”
