Campaign to reduce violence against women and their children
- Super User
This morning, Minister Michaelia Cash will launch a campaign to reduce violence against women and their children. The campaign is jointly funded by the Commonwealth, state and territory governments.
As you know, on average, one woman is killed every week at the hands of a current or former partner. One in three women has been a victim of physical or sexual violence, since the age of 15, from someone known to them.
This campaign is aimed at parents, family members and other influencers of children aged 10-17. It is a call to start by having conversations with young people, rather than excusing their behaviour.
The campaign advertising will commence on Sunday 24 April, 2016. It will include advertising on television, in cinemas and outdoors – such as on public transport – as well as in newspapers, magazines and online.
It will also feature a website ( www.respect.gov.au ) with online tools and resources for influencers and includes campaign materials for download.
This will be supported by a range of engagement activities with local communities and corporates, which will be rolled out over the next two years.
